3 Tips For Protecting Your Well When Having A Submersible Pump Replaced

If your home relies on a well for water and you have a submersible pump, it will eventually need to be replaced. When you have your pump replaced, you may want to look for problems and talk with the installer about doing improvements. This can include addressing problems with a low well-head, securing wires to the pipe in the casing and repairing or replacing pressure tanks. Here are some tips to help you protect your well when you have a new submersible pump installed:

1. Addressing Problems With The Well Casing

The well casing is the large pipe that goes down to the water table when you have a well drilled. It can have problems, such as being saturated with mineral content that can cause the well to lose production. This can be solved by reconditioning the well and cleaning the casing. In addition, at the top of the well there is a well-head. This can often be too low, which can cause your well to become contaminated with rain runoff and other foreign materials. If you have a low well-head, you may want to consider having it raised when you have your pump replaced.

2. Taking Measures To Protect Your Pump And Wires In The Well

There are also many things that can cause problems with your pump when it is installed. It should have a collar on the pipe to prevent it from torqueing or twisting when the pump comes on, which can cause kinks in pipe and damage the wiring going to the pump. In addition, you want to make sure that the wires are well-fastened to the pipe when it is installed, which should be done with electrical tape to keep the tight to the pipe.

3. Repairs And Upgrades To Pressure Tanks For Long Lasting Improvements

You well system probably also includes a pressure tank. This is a tank that provides pressure to the plumbing in your home. It consists of a baffle and a tank that keeps pressure on the water lines in your home.  When this tank becomes damage or is too small, it can cause a loss of pressure or strange thumping sounds in your home. When you have the pump replaced, ask the well service to check the pressure tank to make sure it is adequately sized and does not need to be repaired.
